In the past, the slider chain was simply worn around the neck and the women's pocket watch was hung in the carabiner. The most widespread antique slider chains come from the years 1880-1920 and often have one or more opals and or other colored stones, gemstones, river pearls, oriental pearls etc. on the slider. They often have the shape of rounded triangles with ornaments in the typical Art Nouveau style.
The material of the slider chains and sliders was predominantly gold doublé, sometimes silver. Gold slide chains were very rare.
Long slider chain in silver from the Art Nouveau style around 1900. Round, decorated slider set with a garnet. Marked, manufacturer unknown. Condition: very good.
