Georg Adam Scheid (1838-1921) was a German-Austrian entrepreneur and jewellery manufacturer. He went to Pforzheim at the age of 15, where he completed an apprenticeship and was sent to Vienna as a sales representative in 1858. There he founded his first company in 1862. For more than 50 years Scheid produced high quality silver and gold jewellery as well as luxury items in his factory at Gumpendorfertsraße 85, which were exported all over Europe. Sales outlets were in Vienna, Budapest, Paris, St. Petersburg and Istanbul.
Antique silver box from Vienna in 950 silver. Square form with hinged lid. The lid and the sides of the box are decorated with guilloche enamel, painted with a green leaf tendril on top, on the lid additionally an abstract painted pearl necklace in gold. The interior gilded. Marked, made in the factory of Georg Adam Scheid in Vienna / Austria, around 1915. Condition very good, museum quality.
