Rare antique Art Nouveau pendant with chain, Levinger & Bissinger, Pforzheim, ca. 1904-1909
Delicate poetry in enamel and silver - an Art Nouveau piece of jewellery with soul
This extraordinary Art Nouveau pendant with chain made of 900 silver is a rare, museum-quality piece of jewellery from the renowned Levinger & Bissinger jewellery factory in Pforzheim. Made around 1904-1909, it impressively embodies the formal language and symbolic power of the early 20th century - fine, flowing, floral.
The floral-abstract form of the pendant is typical of Art Nouveau: inspired by nature and at the same time artistically free. The delicately recessed areas between the fine silver veining are covered with translucent enamel using the sophisticated pit enamelling technique (basse-taille) - in harmoniously coordinated mint green and yellow-orange pastel shades that change vividly depending on the incidence of light.
Three blister pearls adorn the lower pendant as a playful detail - they give the piece of jewellery movement, depth and a touch of grace. The pendant is marked on the back with ‘Depose’, ‘900’ and the Levinger & Bissinger maker's mark. The condition is perfect and undamaged, with beautiful patina and only minimal signs of wear - a fascinating testimony to the period.
A particularly collectible example that is also mentioned in specialist literature on Art Nouveau jewellery (including Fritz Falk & Ulrike von Hase-Schmundt). Whether as a stylish accessory or as a historical piece of jewellery - this pendant is a small work of art that fascinates and touches.
A jewel of Art Nouveau - feminine, finely crafted and of rare quality.
