Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte

Josef Hoffmann founded the Wiener Werkstätte together with Koloman Moser in 1903 in order to manufacture and sell items of everyday use and jewelery based on the principles of Art Nouveau. For wealthy customers and supporters of the modern age, he planned houses and interiors. In his designs, simplicity of form is paired with decor and ornament.

Typical design of a brooch by Josef Hoffmann around 1910 in silver, partly gilded and set with a malachite and garnet stones. Marked, brand of the Wiener Werkstätte still recognizable, the rest illegible. Dimensions 4 x 7.6 cm. Excellent condition, museum.
