A pretty silver brooch from around 1910-1920 in the style of the Egyptian Revival, which was very popular after the discovery of King Tutankamun's tomb in 1922. Scarabs were particularly popular because they are not only aesthetically pleasing but also have the symbolic meaning of rebirth and regeneration. This brooch has been enamelled using the plique-a-jour technique, which means that when held up to the light, the enamel is transparent. It is also set with a bottle green glass stone. The manufacture is unknown, but can be attributed to Germany or Austria. Condition excellent, museum and collectible!
