Necklace with window enamel in 935/- silver with chrysoprase and zircon
While enamel is normally always fused onto a metal substrate, window enamel has no metallic substrate. The enamel, which is almost always transparent, is inserted between metal bars in such a way that it stands freely between these bars after firing and light can pass through unhindered.
Splendid Art Nouveau necklace with window enamel (so-called plique-a-jour). Geometric-abstract form, set in the centre with a zircon in a frame setting and two stereotypically arranged oval chrysoprase cabochons. The surfaces are filled with green window enamel in different shades. The necklace is mounted on long, bar-shaped chain links with a plug-in clasp. The necklace is only marked with the hallmark of fineness and "Depose". Design and workmanship point to the jewellery factory of Levinger & Bissinger in Pforzheim, around 1904-1909.
