Antique silver and flat hollow ware from our stockThis is an absolutely rare object: a "puerpera's bowl" in silver! This special kind of bowl was a gift for mothers after the baby birth. It was used to drink clear soups from, therefore the special shape. The lid could be also used as a plate or saucer under the bowl. This kind of bowl goes back to the 17th and 18th century and was made usually in pewter, fayence or silver. Used later also as a porridge-bowl.This bowl has a ring stand, bulging body and two handles with acanthus decor. Flat lid with well. The walls are decorated with hammered pattern, the body base and lid are decorated with beautiful relief from acanthus leaves. Marked, made by Mappin & Webb in London, 1906, remarked in the years 1920-1931 in Poland, after buing for the polish market. Condition: patina, but still very good.
