A touch of elegance - the story of a silver-plated duo
In the semi-darkness of a sumptuous parlour at the turn of the century, their flames flickered and danced gracefully on polished silver: a pair of column-shaped candlesticks, created around 1900. They were more than mere sources of light - they were witnesses to a bygone age in which the art of table decoration spoke a language of wealth and sophistication.
They rested on a square base, steadfast and proud, with stepped feet that gently transitioned from smooth to ornately decorated steps. Their fluted shafts stretched towards the sky like ancient columns, elegant and symmetrical. But it was their chapter that took the breath away: decorated with overlapping leaves in filigree relief, they seemed almost alive, as if the artists had cast nature itself in silver.
The square rim, bent horizontally and decorated with a frieze in relief, framed the beauty like a frame. Inside it rested removable candle holders, a sign of practical thinking that merged function with form. They bore a mysterious mark - unknown, yet full of history.
Their condition? Almost immaculate, as if they had magically outwitted time. Not a scratch, not a blemish marred the flawless surface. Perhaps they had been slumbering in a display case, kept safe, or were part of a collection that always honoured their brilliance.
Now they stand here, ready to tell their next story. Will they sparkle again on a richly laid table, in the glow of a gala? Or perhaps in a modern home, as a memento of the past, a piece of history in the midst of the present? One thing is certain: their elegance is timeless and their beauty will never fade.
