Vintage Navajo bangle in 925 silver with natural turquoise by Mary Ann Spencer - around 1980/90
This impressive vintage bangle was created by the renowned Navajo artist Mary Ann Spencer - a master of traditional silversmithing from Gallup, New Mexico.
Made around 1980/90, the bangle is an outstanding example of authentic Navajo craftsmanship. Crafted using meticulous forging techniques, fifteen sky-blue cabochon-cut turquoises frame the piece of jewellery. Each individual stone is set in a raised bezel setting with a wavy edge - a technique typical of the style that symbolises both protection and elegance.
The natural turquoises display a vibrant variety of colours that is rarely found - from soft sky blue to intense turquoise tones. The composition is harmonious, powerful and authentic - just like the designs of the Navajo culture.
The bangle is signed ‘Sterling’ and stamped ‘M. Spencer’ - the unmistakable signature of Mary Ann Spencer. Even as a young girl, she was inspired by the great jewellery artists around her and developed her own unmistakable style: a combination of traditional symbolism and timeless elegance.
The condition of the clasp is excellent - a unique collector's item with strong charisma and cultural depth.
