Pill boxes were initially simple, small boxes made of wood or sheet metal, in which a supply of tablets could be transported hygienically and safely from loss. Later works of art of the silver and goldsmith's trade can be historically proven. The shapes could be round, oval, heart-shaped, or square.
Pretty box with rose and relief decoration from historicism. Oval shape with cylindrical wall and hinged lid. Lid richly decorated with roses - relief. A relief of rocailles all around the wall. Gold-plated inside. Made around 1870/80. Marked, manufacturer unknown. Condition very good, age-appropriate patina.
