This style became known in the 19th century and was a special way of playing historicism. The forms from the Renaissance were used in this construction. The height of the Neo-Renaissance was between the 1870s and 1885s. The neo-renaissance ended around 1900. The neo-renaissance was replaced by the neo-baroque and the art nouveau in the later period.
An important picture frame from the Neo-Renaissance period around 1870. An embossed sheet of silver using the Repousse technique was mounted on a wooden frame. All style elements of the Renaissance of the 15th / 16th century can be found here. Century again. Even the stand made in silver on the back corresponds to the forms of the time. The frame is marked with 900 and an illegible manufacturer's mark. Excellent condition, age-related patina. Collectable!
