Antique Silver Plated Tray with Gallery Rim
The gallery rim is characterised by a richly openwork design: sticks, lattices, round or oval openings - there are no limits to the imagination here. The practical function of such a rim, which prevents vessels or bottles placed on it from sliding down, combines with the decoration to create a useful and at the same time beautiful object. The openwork design allows interesting views and also offers something "for the eye".
Beautiful large gallery tray made of silver-plated copper: oval shape, flat base on half ball feet. High, richly pierced rim with cord border and engraved, rich patterns inside (flowers, acanthus leaves and rocailles). Bottom marked, made by Walker & Hall, Sheffield, early 20th century. Condition good, with normal signs of use.
