The Bohemian garnet stone belongs to the pyrope group. Its characteristic fiery red colour and its transparency have made it a popular gemstone since time immemorial. When jewellery with small garnet stones became fashionable in the 18th century, Empress Maria Theresa issued an export ban on Bohemian garnet stones in 1762 to protect the local jewellery industry.
Magnificent large cross pendant. The pendant is lavishly set with fiery red Bohemian garnet stones, set in claw settings. Made in Bohemia, second half of the 19th century. Condition according to age very good, remains of original gilding. All stones present. Without chain!
