The antique Georg Jensen cutlery, designed by Johan Rohde in 1915, is a masterful example of Georg Jensen's early organic design language. The ACORN cutlery pattern, also known as KÖNIG, reflects a timeless elegance that clearly contrasts with the ornate forms of early 20th century Art Nouveau. Instead of the obtrusive decorations that were typical of this era, ACORN is characterised by a classic and understated style in which the fine decorations skilfully emphasise the shape and form of the cutlery.
This set, consisting of six forks and six knives, is made of fine 925 sterling silver and was produced between 1915 and 1919, making it a valuable collector's item. Each piece of cutlery proudly bears the characteristic Georg Jensen mark from this period. The condition of the set is remarkably good, reflecting its exquisite craftsmanship and careful care over the years.
The cutlery, originally intended as fruit or children's cutlery, is not only functional but also makes an artistic statement. The handles, designed with gentle curves and elegant lines, end in a stylised acorn, subtly referencing the name of the pattern. This detailed yet understated embellishment gives the cutlery a certain nobility and timeless beauty that makes it a treasured heirloom.
