Antique brooch in 250/- gold with garnet stones
Standard gold or standard metal is a gold alloy with a gold content of less than 8 carats, or less than 333/- thousandths parts. The remaining part of the alloy consists of silver and copper. Norm gold was used around 1900 for the inexpensive production of garnet jewellery. Especially bangles and bracelets, but also necklaces, earrings, brooches and rings were made of it.
Charming art nouveau brooch in 250/- gold (standard gold) and garnet stones in oval shape. Numerous faceted round garnet stones have been arranged in steps. They have claw settings. In the centre, a large oval garnet has been set in a rib setting. The stones have a warm, dark red colour, which indicates a Bohemian origin. With pin catch on the back. Marked, maker unknown. Condition very good!
