The meander is a wave-shaped line ornament, found on art and jewelry, as well as in architecture and as an ornament on various silver items. It owes its name to the typical many curves and bends. This was taken from the name of the Greek river Maiandros, whose course was known for its numerous river bends.
Elegant 12-piece fish cutlery in solid silver from the Art Nouveau period. Fork and blade with one-piece, decorated handle ends with a circumferential meander band. Marked, made by the Wilkens & Sons company in Bremen-Hemelingen, around 1900. Very good condition in use.
