Until the beginning of the 20th century, a toothpick holder was part of the upscale dining culture. These were made in various designs and from different materials. Only privileged households could afford a toothpick holder in solid silver. Today, objects like these are found almost exclusively in museums and are sought after by collectors from all over the world.

Rare toothpick holder, motif ram and lamb in a field of flowers. The toothpicks can be positioned here in the ram and in the flowers. Handmade in silver 833/-. Marked between 1887 and 1937 and unknown maker's mark in Portugal.
