Rare sacred baptismal spoon in silver. This silver spoon turns out to be a highly interesting rarity! This is a sacred object associated with the Christian liturgy.
The broad, flat spoon is decorated with engraved motifs from Trondheim Cathedral in Norway. The handle of the spoon is decorated with a depiction of Olav, probably the first Christian king of Norway. Olav I Tryggvason (* 968; † 9 September 1000 in Svolder) was a Norwegian king who reigned from 995 to 1000. The chroniclers Adam of Bremen and Saxo Grammaticus gave Olav the epithet Craccaben (Krakaben, i.e. "crow's leg") because Olav, despite his Christian zeal bordering on cruelty at times, allegedly had his fortune told and prophesied from bird bones in the pagan manner (Wikipedia). The present spoon was made by Fridtjof Morken, Tostrup in Norway. The mark can be dated to the period 1900-1920. Condition very good!
