Saliere: A precious vessel for a precious content - salt. A basic spice that could only be found on a few tables in the past centuries and was therefore used sparingly: wrapped in precious metals, served with small spoons, enjoyed on special occasions.

A set with 2 salirs (salt bowls) in sterling silver from England. Oval shape on flat stand bases. Body decorated with typical profiles of the Victorian era (half flute). Inside a removable insert made of original blue glass without damage. Marked, Birmingham 1896, Sydenham Brothers.
