In an elegant dining room from the late 19th century, where the aroma of freshly prepared delicacies fills the air, lies a magnificent 950 silver spoon set. This antique set, created in Paris around 1890, epitomises the craftsmanship and luxury of times gone by.
The set comprises four skilfully designed salt spoons and a longer mustard spoon, all carefully stored in an original case. The tongue-shaped handle ends are richly decorated with delicate reliefs of leaves and twigs, giving the spoons an elegant and natural aesthetic. The oval bowls of the salt spoons are skilfully designed as mussel shells on the back, while the bowls of the mustard spoon are hemispherical in shape. All of the spoons are gold-plated, giving the set an additional touch of opulence.
The case itself is a work of art: made of cardboard, lined on the inside with ivory-coloured jacquard with a floral pattern and the finest cream-coloured goatskin, it features moulded hollows for each individual piece. Although the maker's mark is unknown, the exquisite workmanship speaks for the high craftsmanship of the time.
Reminiscent of an era when salt was the precious "white gold" that not everyone could afford, this set symbolises the affluence and sophistication of the better off. It is not only a functional cutlery set, but also a piece of history that brings the elegance and luxury of the 19th century into the present day.
