Antique signet ring in 585/- gold with carnelian
The signet ring was originally used to seal documents. This involved dripping liquid wax onto the documents to be sealed and pressing the signet ring into the still soft wax. The sealing plate can be made of precious metal (silver, gold) or semi-precious stones such as carnelian or layered onyx. Solid gold, beautifully decorated antique signet ring from the late Biedermeier period. Crest-shaped signet plate made of red carnelian. The stepped frame setting of the carnelian is held at the sides by wide, richly engraved elements which merge into the ring band made in the course.
