Vintage coat of arms ring in gold with a layered onyx
In the art of stone cutting, layer stones are flat-cut gemstones whose natural structure is made up of several layers, usually banded in different colors. Well-known layer stones are the multicolored banded agate and its mostly two-colored varieties onyx, sardonyx and carnelian. They are often used for cameos, gems and signet rings.
Rare men's signet ring with a layered onyx. The stone engraved with an unknown knightly coat of arms has a slightly rectangular shape with rounded corners. It was mounted in a frame setting. The ring head is held in place by a ring rail, the shoulder of which is decorated with an elaborate rocaille pattern.
