The name garnet was first coined in the Middle Ages, but has its origin in the Latin word 'granum' for grain or kernel and refers to the presence of the mineral in grains that are similar to the seeds of pomegranate. These are found in the orange-red to red-violet colors of the flower, fruit and seeds of the pomegranate.
This particular piece is a medallion that opens at the back. Here you can use a picture of your loved one or a lock of hair. The original glass plate is available. The existing gilt heirloom harmonizes perfectly with the medallion. The jewel is in excellent condition.
