Gustav Hauber founded his company in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1870, originally as a silverware and chain factory. The initial production comprised ornately crafted chains with cast links in Renaissance moulds. Later, the production of women's and men's necklaces, beer and wine stoppers, watch chains, hunting jewellery, flacons and pillboxes, chatelaines, animal figurines, corks, bag hangers, rings, brooches and bracelets was added. His son Friedrich Hauber took over the business in 1905.
Magnificent brooch from the Art Nouveau period. Transverse oval shape; in the centre is a round green agate in a bezel setting, surrounded by a lavish wreath of shamrocks and ornamentation. Open back and fitted with a pin. Unmarked. Made by Gustav Hauber in Schwäbisch Gmünd, around 1900, this piece of jewellery shows Hauber's typical design, recognisable by a round, central cabochon surrounded by a wreath of flowers in relief.
