A floral masterpiece from the turn of the century - Art Nouveau handle basket by Martin Mayer
This enchanting handle basket from the workshop of the renowned manufacturer Martin Mayer unfolds like a flower growing out of silver. Made in Mainz or Pforzheim around 1900, it combines the essence of floral Art Nouveau with the grace of classical elegance.
The finely openworked conical body made of 800 silver, skilfully sawn, is adorned with delicate, hand-engraved leaves and flowers - a play of nature captured in metal. A fine beaded rim frames the filigree weave, as if it were trying to tame the floral fireworks. The hinged handle rises curved above it, decorated with fine leaf and flower designs that breathe the light sweep of Art Nouveau.
Inside, a deep cobalt blue glass insert glows, providing a fascinating contrast to the silver and giving the overall piece additional depth. The characteristic Martin Mayer mark on the underside seals its origin and makes this basket a coveted showcase piece for connoisseurs and collectors.
Whether as an exclusive gift, an elegant eye-catcher in an interior or simply as a contemporary witness to perfect craftsmanship - this basket with handle tells the story of an era in which nature was the muse that pushed the boundaries of craftsmanship.
