Question about item

Exceptionally pretty bookends with Labrador Retriever heads on each bookend. The books with the heads are very detailed and sculptured, the book titles bear the inscription "Aucassin and Nicolette".
They are marked with 4 marks, but unfortunately not legible.
I suspect the heads are made of resin, but I'm not entirely sure.
