In ancient times and also in the Middle Ages, onyx was thought to have magical properties and was therefore often used to make amulets and healing stones. The stone, appearing in white and black layers, was also often used for gems.

Beautiful art deco bracelet with onyx and marcasites. The bracelet consists of cross-rectangular links, each with a rectangular black onyx, and abstract x-shaped links, which are decorated with small, sparkling marcasites. Box lock with safety chain. Created around 1925.
