Corals worked as a jewel, have been used for centuries as a lucky charm. In various writings in the 17th and 18th centuries, the coral is attributed protection against the rigors of nature on land or water.
All the more valuable is this necklace with about 100 coral beads in a delicate red tone. The elaborate jewelry clasp suggests a production around 1900.

Magnificent necklace with red Sardegna Mediterranean corals from southern Italy. The coral beads are formed in the course. The ornate silver clasp is decorated with a large, lenticular coral. Origin Southern Italy, turn of the century.
