This magnificent antique silver bowl from around 1860/70 impresses with its filigree craftsmanship and rich, openwork decoration. The large, oval fruit or bread bowl impresses with its embossed design, which skilfully depicts putti and bacchantes. In the centre of the bowl is a transverse oval medallion with a charming scene from ancient life, while the quatrefoil wall shows two segments of putti and bacchantes playing music. The remaining two segments are decorated with unengraved medallions surrounded by ornate openwork tendrils and flowers.
The rim of the bowl is richly decorated with floral motifs, lending the piece an opulent elegance. Despite its age, the bowl is in very good condition with a delicate, age-appropriate patina that emphasises its antique charm. Although unmarked, the silver has been tested and is of high quality.
This exceptional work of art is not only a practical serving piece, but also an eye-catcher that will enhance any table or collection. A true jewel of the 19th century, its masterful execution and rich symbolism are sure to delight.
