Antique Mediterranean Coral Necklace
In the Mediterranean in the 19th and early 20th centuries, it was still possible to harvest many corals of the best jewellery quality. Today, it is due to both climate change and overfishing of the coral reefs that this precious natural material is no longer available. The quality of coral from around 1900 is incomparably better than that of the new Asian coral, which is always dyed or treated.
The antique double-row Mediterranean coral necklace from around 1900 shows itself in the most beautiful intense luminous colour with natural, slightly varying tint and natural growth characteristics. Two rows of hand cut beads in a dark salmon tone are arranged in progression and thicken towards the centre. A coral-set original clasp in rolled gold doubles with a safety chain completes the beautiful necklace. Thus a fine piece of jewellery from Italy around 1900 has been preserved, which has lost nothing of its effect. Condition very good, newly mounted!
