The museum-quality 5-piece Art Nouveau tea and coffee set from WMF is a real treasure from the past. Probably designed around 1906 in the Mayer studio, this set radiates an extraordinary elegance and craftsmanship that is typical of the Art Nouveau era. The set consists of a teapot, a coffee pot, a sugar bowl, a creamer and a large tray, all made of oxidised silver on brass.
The walls are decorated with abstract geometric decoration, reflecting the artistic sophistication of the period. The lids are adorned with abstract knotting, giving the set an organic, nature-like aesthetic. The early ostrich mark from 1903 to 1910 and the flower mark with six petals on the cream jug, which stands for a special order or special edition, emphasise the exclusivity of this set.
The set is documented in the 1906 factory catalogue, which confirms its historical significance and authenticity. Pages 184 (illustration 235) and 195 (illustration 235/8) of the catalogue show the detailed beauty and unique character of this ensemble.
The condition of the set is remarkably good and collectible, making it a valuable piece for museums and collectors. It reflects the high standards and artistic vision of the WMF-Geislingen manufactory and is an impressive example of the luxurious tableware of the early 1900s.
This tea and coffee set is more than just a functional object; it is a work of art that tells stories from a bygone era and captures the beauty of Art Nouveau in every detail. It is an exquisite addition to any collection and a testament to WMF's masterful craftsmanship and artistic design.
