One of the best-known gold coins from Switzerland is the Vreneli, which was minted from 1897 to 1949. The obverse of the 20-franc coin features a bust of a woman facing left. Her hair has been plaited into a plait and tied up. She wears a dress embroidered with edelweiss against a mountain background. Above the woman's bust is the inscription "Helvetia". The reverse shows the Swiss coat of arms in a cut-out shield on an oak branch. The currency, the year and the mintmark "B" can also be seen.
